Poggio A Caiano
The village of Poggio a Caiano is part of the province of Prato at the base of Montalbano. The derivation of the name seems to come from the name "hill" and the word Caius or its gens Caia. Among the most visited monuments we can find the Villa Medici original end of the fifteenth century, commissioned by Lorenzo the Magnificent. Among the other monuments we can find, the teams Medici, the church of San Francesco a Bonistallo. On this hill Lorenzo de Medici did you build one of his houses, still dominant element of the territory. Starting from the tenth century the zone of Poggio was property of Auditors Cadalindi of Fucecchio and monks Olivetans of Pistoia.
